Receipt scanner
A receipt scanner that keeps the merchant, date and amount
Receipts are small, faded and easy to lose. MagicPaper scans a photo or PDF, reads the merchant, the date and the amount, and files the slip as a receipt you can search later. Rent receipts and other proofs of payment follow the same path.
What a scanned receipt gives you
The useful part of a receipt is rarely the logo. It is the merchant name, the date, the total and, when it is printed, the VAT. MagicPaper extracts those fields and keeps the original image, so you can check a number instead of trusting a memory. If the paper is creased or the total sits in a corner, you correct the field. The rest of the text stays searchable.
Expense slips, card receipts and rent receipts are all receipts in MagicPaper. You do not need a separate folder for each kind. A quote or an invoice is classified differently, which keeps a till receipt from sitting in the same list as a supplier bill unless you want it there.
How to scan a receipt
Take a photo in JPG, PNG or HEIC, or upload a PDF. The AI runs OCR, classifies the page as a receipt, and fills the metadata. A typical page is analyzed in a couple of seconds. After that you can search by merchant, amount or a word printed on the slip, such as a table number or a product line.
Thermal paper fades. A scan made the day you receive the receipt is more reliable than a photo taken six months later. MagicPaper does not submit the receipt to a tax office or an employer. It stores the proof so you can find it when someone asks. Add a reminder if a reimbursement deadline or a lease date matters.
Languages, formats and the free plan
Receipts in English, French, German, Italian and Spanish are read natively, and you can use the product in any of those languages. A German taxi receipt uploaded from a French interface is still German to the OCR. Phone photos are first-class: most receipts never exist as a clean PDF.
The free plan includes 10 pages per month and 200 MB of storage. That is enough to scan a few slips and see the fields before you pay. Paid plans raise the page allowance and the storage. No credit card is required to create the account.
Private by default
A receipt can show a card ending, a home address or a medical purchase. MagicPaper encrypts the file with AES-256-GCM in the browser before it is stored. Only you can decrypt it. Sharing inside an organization is a separate, explicit action, not the default.
If the paper is actually an invoice, use invoice OCR so the VAT and the supplier are treated as an invoice. Contracts, tax documents, insurance and official letters are covered by the document archive. Pricing lists what changes when 10 pages a month is no longer enough.
Frequently asked questions
Can I scan a crumpled or faded receipt?
Yes, if the text is still readable in the photo. JPG, PNG, HEIC and PDF are accepted. A straight, well-lit picture extracts the merchant, date and amount more reliably, and you can edit any field.
Does it handle rent receipts?
Yes. Rent receipts and other proofs of payment are filed as receipts. The OCR looks for the issuer, the date and the amount on the page.
Are receipt photos encrypted?
Yes. Each document is encrypted with AES-256-GCM before it leaves your browser. Only you can decrypt it.
Is the receipt scanner free?
The free plan includes 10 pages per month and 200 MB of storage. Paid plans raise those limits.
